Richarlison posted a funny message on social media after scoring a world-class brace in Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Burnley.
Richarlison led the line impressively during pre-season when Dominic Solanke was out injured and Thomas Frank gave the Brazilian the nod to start over the England international in Tottenham’s Premier League season opener.
The 28-year-old certainly did not let Frank down, producing a centre-forward masterclass with the way he held up the ball and combined with his teammates.
The striker capped off his performance with two outstanding finishes, the second of which is arguably a goal of the season contender, with the striker meeting Mohammed Kudus’ lopping cross with a scissor kick that thundered into the back of the net.
Richarlison posts funny meme likening himself to Ronaldo
It was the sort of confidence-building start to the season that the former Everton man needed ahead of a World Cup year.
Richarlison will know that he will have to play regularly to catch the eye of Selecao boss Carlo Ancelotti, and following his performance on Saturday, it is fair to say that Solanke faces a big challenge in winning back his place in the side.
Following his brace, the 28-year-old took to Instagram stories to post a picture where his face was cropped into the iconic image of Brazil legend Ronaldo.
Richarlison has an outstanding record when he starts for Tottenham
There is no doubt that Richarlison shut up his critics, and he has the right to feel aggrieved at some of the things that have been said about him over the past few years.
Last year, Gabby Agbonlahor even described Richarlison as a League Two-level striker, and those kinds of statements completely ignore the fact that the former Everton man has done well when he has been fit and starting games.
In fact, according to BBC Sport, Richarlison has scored 13 goals in his last 16 league starts for Tottenham, including nine in his last nine starts.
