Tottenham have been ‘pushing hard’ for £61m playmaker but he wants another club

A new report has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur were prepared to break the bank for a young attacker in the summer, but the player has other plans for his future.

Spurs failed with moves for several attacking midfielders in the summer, with the most high-profile misses being those of Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White.

However, there was also another young Argentine playmaker that the Lilywhites pushed the boat out for but failed to land.

It was reported that Tottenham were willing to spend big on Como’s Nico Paz, but the young attacker decided to stay put at the Serie A club.

It was reported at the time that Real Madrid played a big role in preventing Spurs from signing the Argentine, with Los Blancos having a buy-back option for the player.

Nico Paz did not take a lot of convincing to reject Tottenham

A new report in AS (as relayed by Sport Witness) takes a closer look at the Lilywhites’ failed approach for Paz and Madrid’s role in stopping the transfer.

It is revealed that the La Liga giants have a €9m (£7.8m) buyback clause for Paz next summer, while Tottenham were willing to offer €70m (£61m) to Como for the youngster last year.

Madrid would have received 50 per cent of the fee if Como and the attacking midfielder had agreed on a move to Spurs.

However, the Spanish club convinced him to reject the move, and he didn’t hesitate to do so as the youngster wants to return to the Santiago Bernabeu in the future.

The publication adds that Spurs and other Premier League clubs have been ‘pushing hard’ for Paz since, but the player only has his eyes on Madrid.

Paz has taken his game to a new level this season

Tottenham will be looking back and wondering ‘what if’ regarding the Argentine, who is now starting to fulfil the potential that he has always had.

Paz has scored six goals and provided six assists in 17 Serie A matches for Como this term and is now quickly developing into one of the most exciting young players in the world.

It has been reported over recent months that Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal have also enquired about Paz, but so far, the player has not shown interest in a Premier League switch.
