Tottenham hold ‘discreet meetings’ over a deal for one of England’s most in-form attackers

Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a shock move to sign a forward who starred for England in their win over Albania on Sunday.

It has been widely reported that Tottenham want to add a marquee wide-forward to their squad in January as they intend to signal their ambition.

It has now been suggested that Spurs are reigniting their interest in signing a big-name forward whom they explored a move for in the summer.

Tottenham showed an interest in Marcus Rashford back in June, but in the end, it emerged that the Man United man rejected Spurs’ approach before deciding to join Barcelona on loan.

Tottenham have held discreet meetings with Marcus Rashford’s agent

The 28-year-old has managed to reignite his career at Camp Nou, having managed six goals and nine assists in 16 appearances so far.

His form at Barca has seen Rashford earn a recall to the England squad, and according to a report in El Nacional, it has also piqued the interest of Premier League sides.

This includes Tottenham, who have held ‘discreet meetings’ with the forward’s agent to explore a potential summer move.

The Lilywhites’ London rivals, Chelsea, have also allegedly spoken to Rashford regarding a switch to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

Are Barcelona planning on signing Rashford permanently?

It is pointed out by El Nacional that the Catalan giants have the option to land Rashford permanently for €35m (£30.8m) at the end of the season.

However, despite his flashes of brilliance in Spain, the report says that the La Liga giants have not committed to activating the purchase option.

The publication explains that Barca’s financial complaints have made a permanent deal for Rashford complicated, with the club’s current salary forcing them to prioritise contract renewals over new signings.
