Tottenham Hotspur will have to break the bank to sign a Premier League centre-back who has been described as the club’s ‘dream’ target ahead of the January window.

It has been widely reported that signing a top-class defender is a priority for Spurs in January, due to the injury record of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

Over the last couple of months, some outlets have suggested that Spurs are eyeing a move for Jarrad Branthwaite in January after failing with an approach for the Everton man in the summer.

A couple of days ago, David Ornstein named Branthwaite as Tottenham’s ‘dream’ signing in January,  revealing that the England international has been on the Lilywhites’ radar for a while.

Man United ready to challenge Tottenham for Jarrad Branthwaite

CaughtOffside now report several top Premier League clubs have taken an interest in Branthwaite, according to sources close to industry agents.

The 23-year-old is viewed as one of the most promising defenders in the Premier League, and Tottenham are one of his biggest fans, with the North London club viewing him as an ‘ideal fit’ for Thomas Frank’s system.

However, they are expected to face competition from Man United for the England star, with the Red Devils also having admired him for a long time.

In fact, it is alleged that Ruben Amorim’s men view Branthwaite as a potential pillar of their defensive rebuild.

How much would Spurs have to pay for Branthwaite?

CaughtOffside say that despite the growing interest, the centre-back is content at Everton and is not expected to push for a move away from the club in January.

The Toffees are well protected since Branthwaite signed a new five-year deal in the summer, and they see him as a vital part of their future.

They value the young centre-back at £70m and it is revealed that the same valuation discouraged many of the player’s admirers from bidding in the summer.
