Tottenham Hotspur have now officially confirmed that Xavi Simons has become their fifth signing of the summer transfer window subject to international clearance and work permit..

According to reports, Tottenham reached a breakthrough with RB Leipzig on Simons in the early hours of Friday morning.

Subsequently, Simons’ move to Spurs has even got a ‘here we go’ from Fabrizio Romano, but some Tottenham fans were still nervous, given what transpired with Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White this summer.

Many were waiting for official confirmation from the North London club, and they can breathe a sigh of relief as that has arrived.

Xavi Simons is officially a Tottenham player

Tottenham have now confirmed on social media that the 22-year-old has officially signed for the club and will be donning the Lilywhite shirt.

The Dutch international has put pen to paper on a five-year contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and Spurs fans will be hoping he is the missing piece to Thomas Frank’s midfield.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Simons’ contract also includes a two-year extension option at the end of the five years.

Simons vindicates Spurs’ summer transfer strategy

Many Spurs fans were questioning why Tottenham were going after Xavi Simons when he preferred Chelsea, given what had happened with the Eberechi Eze deal.

However, the reality is that when you are pursuing top-class players, they are always going to have options, and they will sometimes turn you down.

Tottenham’s persistence has paid off in the Simons pursuit, and it also vindicates their decision to leave their business until late.

While Spurs fans would like to see the business completed early, it is not always possible to get your top targets through earlier in the transfer window.

Even last week, Simons told Spurs he was waiting for Chelsea, and had Tottenham simply moved on to other targets as supporters wanted, we would have missed out on a sensational deal.
