Thomas Frank faces a familiar challenge on Tuesday evening as Tottenham Hotspur welcome Danish giants Copenhagen to North London for their Champions League league-phase encounter. The Lilywhites remain unbeaten after their first three matches in the competition, while their Scandinavian visitors are still seeking their first win.

Tottenham’s third Champions League outing saw them take on Ligue 1 heavyweights Monaco, in a match where Guglielmo Vicario’s goalkeeping heroics proved decisive. The Italian shot-stopper denied former Arsenal academy product Folarin Balogun and his Monaco teammates throughout the contest at the Stade Louis-II, ensuring Spurs maintained their undefeated run and collected a valuable point—bringing their tally to five from three games.

That total places Tottenham in mid-table—15th—in the 36-team league-phase standings, just a single point away from the top eight automatic qualification spots. Historically, Spurs have been a force on home soil in European competition, going unbeaten in their last 21 home matches across continental tournaments, with 17 of those ending in victory. However, their most recent appearance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was met with frustration, as a 1-0 London derby defeat to Chelsea saw them booed off the pitch after recording their lowest-ever Expected Goals figure in a Premier League match.

The atmosphere soured further when Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence ignored Frank’s attempts to acknowledge the fans at full time. Spurs have now suffered back-to-back defeats, following their EFL Cup exit against Newcastle United, and have managed just three wins in their last 10 outings across all competitions.

While Tottenham look to bounce back from successive losses, Copenhagen are also eager to reverse their fortunes after consecutive Champions League defeats to Qarabag and Borussia Dortmund, following an encouraging opening draw with Bayer Leverkusen. Jacob Neestrup’s side were involved in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Dortmund at Parken Stadion on October 21, but ultimately conceded four goals—two from Felix Nmecha and two assists from Jobe Bellingham—leaving them with just a single point from three games.

Copenhagen, who advanced through the qualifying rounds to reach the group stage, currently sit 32nd in the standings—one of four teams with just one point. Their record against English opponents on the road is also discouraging, as they have never won away to an English club in any competition and have only two victories from their last 21 Champions League away matches, suffering 15 defeats.

Despite their European struggles, Neestrup’s men have shown better form domestically, picking up two wins and a draw since the Dortmund match, including a narrow 3-2 victory over Fredericia in the Superliga on Saturday. However, they remain five points adrift of league leaders AGF, having played one game more.
