Tottenham identify ‘dream’ midfield signing after Conor Gallagher and it may annoy Man United

Tottenham Hotspur are not done strengthening their midfield just yet and are prepared to push the boat out to sign one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

Conor Gallagher is now officially a Spurs player, and the former Chelsea man’s arrival undoubtedly improves Thomas Frank’s squad, particularly amid news that Rodrigo Bentancur is facing a minimum of three months on the injury table.

However, some pundits have questioned whether Gallagher is the kind of midfielder who will take Spurs to the next level.

Their concerns are understandable, as the 25-year-old perhaps does not add much in terms of creativity, but that is something Tottenham want to solve by spending big on another Premier League midfielder.

Tottenham eyeing Man United target Adam Wharton

TEAMtalk have now claimed that despite landing Gallagher, Spurs are ready to press ahead with an ‘audacious’ move for another big-name Premier League midfielder.

The club are now aiming very high to reinforce their engine room, and they have identified one huge candidate for the job.

Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba have been identified as players who could take Manchester United’s midfield to the next level.

However, the report adds that ‘Spurs will spare no expense’ in putting big money on the table for Wharton, both in terms of the transfer fee and wages.

Journalist says Spurs have a clear ‘dream’ midfield signing

TEAMtalk also spoke to journalist Dean Jones, who made it clear that Wharton is viewed at the North London club as their ‘dream’ midfield signing.

The journalist explained that Thomas Frank’s side are now assessing a possible deal for the England international and whether they can win the race for him.

Jones told the publication: “I have reported recently about how Spurs have made initial moves towards understanding the possibilities around signing Adam Wharton, and I think the reasons for that are becoming more obvious.

“There have been reports elsewhere now about how there is still a drive to sign a midfielder who is capable of conducting play from deep, and while Wharton is not the only option, he is a dream option.

“Spurs will have to make a decision over just how likely it is they can actually win the race for him because there will be competition. And how long can they wait for that moment?”
