Tottenham Hotspur have identified a Ligue 1 star as an alternative after dropping out of the race to sign Antoine Semenyo in January.
Report revealed that Spurs were ready to break the bank for Semenyo and offer him a lucrative package to choose N17 over Manchester or Liverpool.
However, it was always claimed that Tottenham were underdogs in the race to sign the Bournemouth man, who is wanted by some of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.
Fabrizio Romano delivered the final nail in the coffin last week, revealing that Spurs had dropped out of the race to sign Semenyo.
However, it has now emerged that Tottenham made contingency plans in case they were not able to land the Ghana international.

Tottenham identify Monaco star as an alternative to Antoine Semenyo
TEAMtalk say that signing Semenyo was Tottenham’s top priority ahead of the January window. However, Spurs always knew that a deal would not be easy to do as the Bournemouth star is also wanted by Man United, Man City, and Liverpool.
As a result, the North Londoners are lining up Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche as an alternative to the 25-year-old. Akliouche, who has three goals and four assists across all competitions this term, is thought be a long-term target for the Lilywhites.
It is revealed that Tottenham have been keeping track of the Frenchman’s performances throughout this calendar year and have been very impressed by his progress.
How difficult would a deal for Maghnes Akliouche be for Spurs?
TEAMtalk say that the Monaco man will be cheaper than Semenyo, with the Ligue 1 club valuing the youngster at around £40m.
However, it is revealed that PSG are also fans of Akliouche, and Tottenham are aware that they may face competition for the player from the Parisians.
Further, the outlet points out that Spurs’ preference is to sign a left-winger, while Akliouche has played his best football for Monaco down the right.
