Hamburg are now in talks with Tottenham over signing one of their young gems, but they would need the North London club to do them a huge favour to get the deal over the line.
Several of Tottehm’s young guns have impressed in pre-season, none more so than Luka Vuskovic, who had a spectacular start to his time at Spurs by scoring a goal and picking up an assist in his first appearance for the Lilywhites against Reading last month.
Some senior Tottenham players have heaped praise on Vuskovic, but the teenager is certainly not guaranteed to stay in North London this season.
A host of clubs around Europe want to take Vuskovic on loan, with Thomas Frank facing a big decision on the teenager over the coming days and weeks.
Bundesliga club locked in talks with Tottenham over Luka Vuskovic
According to a report in Bild, Hamburg hold a keen interest in signing the Croat on loan.
The report says that there is a game of poker going on behind the scenes as the newly promoted Bundesliga club attempt to tie up a deal for Vuskovic.
The Tottenham man’s older brother, Mario, plays for Hamburg, although he is currently serving a long-term ban for doping.
The report says that the German club are currently in talks with the Spurs defender’s entourage, but it is made clear that they can only sign him on loan if the Premier League side subsidises a significant portion of his salary.
What are the chances of Vuskovic staying?
Some sources have said over recent weeks that Thomas Frank may decide to hang onto Vuskovic on the back of his impressive performances in pre-season.
However, Alasdair Gold has said that Tottenham are expected to loan out one of Vuskovic or Kota Takai, with the Croat being the more likely one to head out.
The Daily Mail claimed two weeks ago that even though several Bundesliga clubs want the 18-year-old, Spurs may decide to blood Vuskovic in English football rather than loaning him out to a German club.
