Tottenham injury list climbs to 12 but two could return in time for Chelsea clash

Thomas Frank has confirmed that yet another Tottenham player picked up an injury in the lead-up to the Carabao Cup clash against Newcastle United.

It emerged before Wednesday’s clash that Archie Gray has picked up a calf problem, with the 19-year-old being the latest to join what is an extremely boated injury list for Tottenham.

That means that Spurs now have double-digit injury absentees, with the situation getting almost as bad as it did during the club’s peak injury crisis last season.

It turns out that another youngster, whom we have seen a lot of this season, also picked up a strain this week.

Thomas Frank provides an update on Tottenham winger Wilson Odobert

Odobert’s name was missing from Tottenham’s matchday squad at St James’ Park, with Xavi Simons being deployed on the left once again.

Frank has now revealed that the France Under-21 international picked up a side strain in the lead-up to the game, but indicated that he could be back as early as Saturday’s London derby against Chelsea.

When asked about Odobert, the Tottenham boss said after the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle (via Football.London): “Odobert had a side, strain, unfortunately, that kept him out for this game. Also, we need to assess him but it could look positive for Chelsea.”

Frank also revealed that Guglielmo Vicario missed the Newcastle clash through injury, but the Spurs number one should be back in time for Chelsea.

That means Vicario and Odobert join Cristian Romero, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Ben Davies, Kota Takai, Dominic Solanke, Radu Dragusin, Destiny Udogie, Archie Gray, and Yves Bissouma on the injury list.

Odobert has been Spurs’ most effective player on the left

The left-wing role has been a major issue for Thomas Frank, with none of Xavi Simons, Brennan Johnson or Mathys Tel doing particularly well in that role.

Odobert has looked the most promising out of Spurs’ options as his ability to run at defenders stretches the opposition backline.

If Frank persists with Mohammed Kudus down the middle, the Frenchman’s availability may become key for the big game on Saturday.
