Tottenham interest in lethal striker confirmed, but he would cost even more than Solanke

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing a prolific striker to bolster their attacking options, though a substantial transfer fee could prove a significant stumbling block in any potential deal.

Tottenham Hotspur are yet to truly replace Harry Kane since he departed three summers ago to German giants Bayern Munich.

The England captain is arguably one of the greatest finishers of his generation and remains the club’s record goalscorer, yet since his departure, Spurs have looked blunt in attack with none of their forwards coming close to replicating his output.

Dominic Solanke was signed as the direct replacement for the former Tottenham number nine, but the 28-year-old can barely stay fit, with injuries consistently hindering his involvement since his move to north London.

Tottenham target Samu Aghehowa but the price is high

Journalist Paul O’Keefe has now confirmed that Tottenham are on the lookout for a new number nine to lead the line.

This season Spurs have had to rely on Richarlison and Randal Kolo Muani, who have looked to impress but are not quite at the levels required at this stage of the campaign.

The Tottenham insider stated during a Q&A with supporters that one name on the club’s radar is Samu Aghehowa, but he explained that the forward’s valuation could be a hindrance.

His tweet read: “Don’t know. I heard they looked at forward Samu Aghehowa but very hefty price.”

Aghehowa release clause poses problems for Spurs

Indeed, Samu Aghehowa has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham in the past few weeks, with the club keeping a close eye on the forward who has bagged 15 goals in 21 appearances in all competitions.

However, he also commands a massive fee, with the striker reported to have a release clause understood to be around £87.3m (€100m), although it is unlikely any club will trigger that figure.

The forward could depart in January, but that will also command a significant fee, reported to be in the region of £70m (€80m), if not £78.6m (€90m), just to start a conversation with Porto mid-season, making it very unlikely for Spurs to make a move, given they will look to strengthen other areas of their team.
