Tottenham supporters will love what Cristian Romero said on social media after committing his future to the North London club.
Tottenham Hotspur have made some smart signings this summer and are reportedly after more top players, but arguably their best deal of the summer was not a transfer at all.
It came yesterday when the club announced that new captain, Cristian Romero, had penned a four-year deal with Tottenham.
According to Salary Leaks, the defender’s new contract is worth £200,000 per week, making him the highest earner in the Spurs squad.
Cristian Romero expresses his love for Tottenham Hotspur
The Argentine defender may be a busy and loud player on the pitch, but he is a man of few words off it.
However, he has now taken to social media to express his love for Tottenham, referring to the club as his family, and admitting that he loves the fans.
Romero posted a behind-the-scenes video of his contract signing, along with the caption: “I’m here to stay. Spurs is my family. I love the fans. I love this club.”
Is this a sign that Spurs will show serious ambition?
In the past, Romero has criticised the Spurs hierarchy for a lack of ambition, questioning why the Lilywhites do not invest as much into their squad as some of their rivals.
The fact that he has done a 180 on his future and signed a new deal suggests that he has been sufficiently convinced by Daniel Levy and the leadership that Tottenham intend to compete.
It is also clear that the Argentine has been won over by Thomas Frank and his coaching staff. If Frank can build around the likes of Romero, Van de Ven, Palhinha, and Kudus this season, Spurs could be in for a solid season.
