Tottenham legend ready to tag team it with club icon as Igor Tudor sack calls grow

Igor Tudor may struggle to see out the season at Tottenham, with a club icon having a plan in place to take charge alongside another fan favourite

Glenn Hoddle has revealed he would consider a return to Tottenham, with the club icon suggesting he would happily join forces alongside Robbie Keane. Spurs recently brought in Igor Tudor as caretaker manager, but he has suffered defeat in his opening three matches, heightening relegation concerns and prompting calls for his dismissal.

Merely one point separates the north London outfit, West Ham United and Nottingham Forest after the most recent round of fixtures. The latter secured a draw against Manchester City on Wednesday, whilst the Hammers triumphed away at Fulham, with Spurs' loss to Crystal Palace completing the midweek schedule.

Having suffered five straight league defeats, and with only nine matches left, something must change at Spurs, and that could involve another switch in the dugout. As things stand, that looks unlikely with Tudor still set to hold his pre-match press conference next Tuesday before the Champions League last-16 first leg against Atletico Madrid.

At this stage of the season, it would be a risky decision if Spurs were to act and replace him. Club icon and former Spurs boss Hoddle, however, has put forward himself and Keane as possible options, though such a scenario seems unlikely.

When asked if he would return to Spurs on the Could it be Magic FA Cup podcast, he said: "I think I would, actually. Particularly with Tottenham, as that's my club. I've supported them since I was eight years of age. So they were a massive part of my life."

On Keane, he further commented: "Robbie's doing great as a young manager. So to have a steady springboard and someone experienced like myself would be a good formula, in many ways. I think it'd be a shrewd move to have somebody, whether it was me or somebody experienced with him."

The former Republic of Ireland player is currently in charge of Hungarian team Ferencvaros, having taken up the role in January 2025.

Following the departure of Thomas Frank, Keane was touted as a potential interim head coach for Spurs. When questioned about the rumours linking him to his old club, the 45-year-old responded: "I can't help speculation."

Subsequent reports suggested that Keane would only consider the position if it were a permanent appointment, rather than a short-term stint.

Tudor, on the other hand, was open to an interim role, given his previous successful short-term tenures. However, he has found the going tough so far and seems to already be feeling the strain of the job. The 47-year-old was asked after the loss to Palace if he felt the club was unmanageable.

He replied: "I don't want to speak about the club. I want to be positive. I cannot tell the guys nothing in the end after this game.

"They gave everything. Unfortunately, we pay every detail. We pay every detail. If we can say that red Card is a detail, there is always something to say.

"With all the problems we have now, missing the defenders today, missing the full-backs, these are the problems we already know. I don't want to speak about that, but we need to stay together now."

After Thursday evening's defeat, Spurs are positioned just one point above the Premier League's relegation zone in 16th place.
