Tottenham made deadline day calls over Lyon winger even after Kolo Muani loan

10 hours ago 33

Tottenham were busy on transfer deadline day, with reports emerging that Thomas Frank’s side made a late push for a highly-rated Lyon winger after securing the loan signing of Randal Kolo Muani.

Tottenham Hotspur had a relatively quiet final day of the window, with the north London club bringing in only one new face, Kolo Muani, after weeks of speculation.

The French forward has joined Tottenham on a season-long loan, without any obligation or option to buy, although there remains an understanding that Muani’s move could become permanent should the striker make a significant impact in north London.

Even with that signing finalised, Tottenham were not content to stop there, as the club had also been in the hunt for a wide forward.

Savinho remained a serious target for Spurs, with the Lilywhites having retained their interest in the Brazil international until the very end of deadline day, but the move fell apart despite their continued efforts.

Tottenham made late move for Lyon winger Malick Fofana

According to GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham Hotspur are understood to have made an eleventh-hour enquiry for Lyon winger Malick Fofana, as Thomas Frank remained keen on adding more creativity following the capture of Randal Kolo Muani earlier on deadline day.

Fofana enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season, registering 11 goals across all competitions, and his performances did not go unnoticed.

The Belgian caught the attention of several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Liverpool, Fulham, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest, while European giants such as RB Leipzig, Napoli and Bayern Munich also kept tabs on him.

Lyon valued the 20-year-old at around £52 million (€61 million). Tottenham made a flurry of calls on deadline day to try and push a deal through, but their efforts fell short.

Lyon rejected Spurs’ approach instantly, insisting there was simply not enough time to source a replacement for one of their brightest attacking prospects.

Spurs could revisit Malick Fofana transfer in January

It is believed that Tottenham have not completely given up on Malick Fofana, with the north London club expected to make a move for the winger during the winter window or even the summer.

Spurs are also said to still hold interest in Savinho, with a report from TBR Football suggesting the club may return for the Brazilian youngster in January, as Thomas Frank continues to search for reinforcements in wide areas.

For now, though, with neither Fofana nor Savinho in the squad, the Tottenham manager will have to extract the maximum from the current crop of wide men at his disposal, particularly as Spurs look to balance their domestic ambitions with their European commitments.
