Tottenham look set to put big transfer and wage plans in motion if they avoid relegation from the Premier League

Tottenham are said to have a big transfer overhaul and wage restructure planned for the summer if they avoid relegation. Spurs currently sit four points off the bottom three, with the threat of dropping down to the Championship real, having not yet won in the Premier League this year.

Their latest defeat came last Sunday in the North London Derby with Arsenal ruining Igor Tudor's first game in charge by winning 4-1. Fellow relegation rivals West Ham United also picked up a point, but Nottingham Forest, who are a place below Tottenham, were beaten by Liverpool.

Dropping down a division would significantly impact the Lilywhites financially and with that as a genuine possibility this season, the club's owners look set to take action if they are still a Premier League club next season.

According to The Guardian, plans are being made to tear up the club's rigid wage structure and also compete a major summer overhaul. Their report states that there is an understanding within the club that reluctantly paying bigger salaries has contributed to recent struggles.

In comparison to other 'big six' members, Tottenham have the lowest wage bill with it being listed as £222m in their most recent accounts for 2023-24. Manchester City’s, meanwhile, was £413m over the same period.

However, some improvement has been made in that department following recent signings of Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus and Conor Gallagher. The latter was brought in during the January transfer window and has become Spurs' highest-paid player with the midfielder earning roughly £200,00-per-week.

Under the guidance of Daniel Levy, Tottenham became particularly well-known for not spending big on salaries or transfer fees.

However, since he was forced out of the club by its new-look ownership, it is being claimed that there is an increasing sense a change is overdue.

Spurs' majority shareholders, the Lewis Family, chief executive Vinai Venkatesham and sporting director Johan Lange have all come under fire for the club's failings this season.

The fanbase have been left particularly angered by the delay in sacking Thomas Frank despite a handful of bad results and awful performances.

Not making a decision sooner has left Tottenham in a concerning predicament with 11 games to play. Games away to Fulham and Liverpool arrive before the March international break along with home matches against Crystal Palace and Forest.

The latter is a huge game for both clubs with just two points currently separating them in the standings. West Ham are four behind their London rivals and in form having lost just one of their nine games in all competitions.
