Tottenham may have to beat Man City and Chelsea in race for £21.6m generational talent

Tottenham Hotspur have received some bad news in their pursuit of a highly-rated Championship starlet with a £21.6m price tag.

Spurs have plenty of exciting teenagers in their set-up, many of whom big things are expected out of in the coming years.

The North Londoners reportedly want to add to their stock of top young talent by raiding the Championship for a 16-year-old, who is quickly earning a reputation as one of the best young attacking talents in his age group.

It has been widely reported that Spurs are plotting a move for Leicester City winger Jeremy Monga, who became the Premier League’s second-youngest debutant last season at just 15 years and 271 days.

However, the race for the Leicester City man is no longer straightforward.

Chelsea and Man City want to swoop for Tottenham target Jeremy Monga

According to Fichajes, Manchester City and Chelsea are now closely monitoring Monga and have been impressed by his performances in the Championship this term.

Man City believe that the timing is now ideal to get ahead of the competition for the 16-year-old, who is valued at around €25m (£21.6m).

Pep Guardiola’s men are big fans of Monga’s profile and see him as a good fit for their long-term project.

However, Chelsea are not expected to let City have a free run at the teenager. The Blues want to continue investing in top young players before their value skyrockets and see the Leicester man as one for the future.

Leicester and Monga’s stance revealed amidst transfer interest

Fichajes say that despite the growing interest, Leicester are not in a hurry to sell their academy graduate.

The Foxes are maintaining a ‘firm stance’ on Monga for the timebeing and believe that he can develop further at the King Power Stadium over the coming years.

They are not under any pressure to sell as the England U19 international is comfortable at the Midlands club and feels he is in the right environment to continue developing.
