Tottenham may have to fend off Chelsea and Aston Villa after two £40m poach attempts

A disappointing Premier League campaign – one that could see Tottenham Hotspur relegated – may force them to consider selling their standout performer from last season, Lucas Bergvall.

Lucas Bergvall had a stellar first season at Tottenham Hotspur under Ange Postecoglou, making a clean sweep of three individual awards thanks to his impressive performances throughout the 24/25 campaign.

This term, though, the Swede has struggled to make a similar impact, with injuries a major factor in his drop-off.

Yet, Bergvall has attracted interest from clubs in the Premier League. Both Chelsea and Aston Villa put in a £40 million bid for the midfielder, but Spurs swiftly turned down.

Tottenham Lucas Bergvall transfer interest from Chelsea and Aston Villa

According to Sportbladet, Tottenham are now expected to look to fend off further attempts from clubs to poach their young talent, Bergvall.

However, it is understood that it could become increasingly difficult later in the summer if Spurs were to drop to the Championship.

This is because of the financial repercussions of relegation, which could force a fire sale in north London, and Bergvall is likely to be a target.

Should that happen, Chelsea and Aston Villa are tipped to be at the front of the queue to land the talented Swede, having missed out on him in the winter window.

Spurs face Lucas Bergvall decision amid relegation threat

Spurs will surely not want to lose a player of Bergvall’s talent, given his age and ability on the pitch, any time soon.

The youngster is not just one who shines for his club, but is equally influential for his country, Sweden, which he has helped secure a place in the World Cup.

Should he have a stellar campaign in the World Cup finals, his stock is only going to rise, which could make it even harder for Tottenham to keep him this summer.

However, Spurs do now have his services for the final seven games of the season, with Bergvall having declared himself fit and ready to play, and the hope will be for De Zerbi to bring out the best in the versatile midfielder.
