The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has now suggested that Thomas Frank’s transfer plans will have been influenced after watching one Tottenham man in action against Reading on Saturday.
Tottenham Hotspur have had a solid transfer window so far, but a lot of work still needs to be done if the Lilywhites are to compete on multiple fronts.
Thomas Frank has made it clear that Spurs need a big squad to compete in all four competitions, but there is some uncertainty regarding whether the Dane wants to still strengthen the heart of his defence.
Over the past few days, a number of outlets have claimed that Tottenham are showing an interest in Illia Zabarnyi, while some sources have revealed that Spurs are also speaking to Genoa about Koni De Winter.
Tottenham no longer expected to sign a new centre-back
The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has now claimed that Luka Vuskovic’s impressive showing against Reading may mean that Tottenham decide against another addition at centre-back.
With the Croat and Kota Takai arriving through the door this summer to join Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso, Radu Dragusin, and Ben Davies, the journalist feels that depth in the heart of defence is not a big issue for Frank.
However, he adds that the Danish coach might want to add more depth in the full-back positions before the start of the new season.
Thomas Frank sent a massive hint against Reading
Many would have noted that Frank used a 4-2-3-1 formation against Reading in both halves, which is the same system he used at Brentford for the majority of last season.
While we know that the 51-year-old is tactically flexible, his selection shows that he is not likely to go to a back three as his primary formation next season.
That makes it even more unlikely that Tottenham will enter the market for another centre-back, especially given that Cristian Romero now looks likely to stay at Spurs.
