Tottenham must move fast to beat Inter Milan to a rising £22m Serie A centre-back

Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on a young Serie A centre-back, but they may have to act fast if they do not want to fall behind in the transfer race.

Cristian Romero is expected to leave Tottenham this summer, even if the Lilywhites stay up, while Micky van de Ven has also allegedly had his head turned by bigger clubs.

Spurs have already begun work to add reinforcements to their backline, with reports indicating that De Zerbi’s men are in advanced talks to sign Maros Senesi on a free transfer.

Spurs are now turning their attention to an up-and-coming Bosnian defender, but they have now received some bad news.

Inter Milan step up pursuit of Tottenham target Tarik Muharemovic

Last week, TuttoSport reported that Spurs are ready to push ahead with a move for Tarik Muharemovic, having been extremely impressed by his performances for Sassuolo this season.

However, a new report in Corriere dello Sport has revealed that Inter Milan have now entered the race for Sassuolo defender ahead of the summer.

The Nerazzurri are expected to lose Stefan De Vrij and Francesco Acerbi, and are keen on adding young players to their backline.

They have identified Muharemovic as their top defensive target and have already made contact with Sassuolo as well as the defender’s entourage over a deal.

It is pointed out that Inter face a ‘lingering threat’ from Juventus, who have a sell-on clause on the 23-year-old, and are considering re-signing him.

Inter hoping to beat Spurs and others to discount Muharemovic deal

Corriere dello Sport say that Inter CEO Beppe Marotta is looking to secure a deal for the Bosnia international for a ‘base figure’ of €25m (£21.7m).

The report asserts that the San Siro hierarchy want to close a deal for Muharemovic ‘as soon as possible’ in an effort to avoid competition from Premier League clubs and Juventus.

However, the outlet adds that Sassuolo will do ‘everything in their power to create an auction’ for the centre-back as we approach the summer window.
