Tottenham Hotspur have increased their spending in transfer windows over the years, but quantity at times has been too highly prioritised.
Tottenham Hotspur have long been known as one of the ‘big six’ in the Premier League, but their league positions in recent years have failed to reflect this acknowledgement.
Spurs recorded their worst ever league finish last season and the current campaign looks to be heading in a similar direction, after a string of poor results since the beginning of November.
Thomas Frank has quite rightly received criticism for his side’s terrible performances. However, he is working with an attacking line of players who fail to score and create chances at the level they should.

Spurs need to spend big on individual players in order to compete
Recent years have seen Spurs splash more money in transfer fees, but the club are still yet to spend more than £65m on an individual player.
Bringing in players at the cost of around £60m has not been too effective, with the likes of Dominic Solanke and Tanguy Ndombele failing to perform as their expected levels.
Of course, a £100m+ player might still struggle, as seen at Liverpool this season with Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz. However, spending huge transfer fees is how some of the Premier League’s best teams have acquired their greatest talents.
Morgan Rogers would be the ideal marquee signing for Tottenham
Tottenham failed to sign Morgan Rogers last summer and eventually a deal was agreed to bring Xavi Simons to North London instead.
The Dutchman has had a shaky start to life in England, most recently seeing red for a clumsy challenge in the 2-1 defeat against Liverpool. Rogers on the other hand has seven goals and three assists in the Premier League and his recent winner against Manchester United was a thing of beauty.
This is the kind of player Spurs should aspire to sign and doing so would require a sizable investment. It is time for Tottenham to catch up with the rest of English football’s big hitters and land themselves a signing who could make a real difference to the team’s fortunes.
