The full-time whistle has blown between Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa in the Premier League, and the player ratings are in.
Below, we have given each Tottenham player a performance rating on a scale of 0-10, with 10 highest score achievable for an impressive performance.
Tottenham had an afternoon to forget after suffering another home defeat, despite Rodrigo Bentancur giving Spurs an early lead.
It proved not to be enough with Villa scoring two impressive goals to foil Spurs from moving up to second in the Premier League table.
How the Tottenham players rated vs Aston Villa
Guglielmo Vicario – Beaten convincingly from range for both goals. Rogers’ dipping strike proved too difficult to handle, and Buendia’s precise long-range effort also found its way past him. A frustrating afternoon for the Italian. 5.
Pedro Porro – Solid defensively for much of the contest and composed on the ball. Produced a lovely pass in behind for Kudus in the second half, but Spurs failed to capitalise. A reliable performance overall. 6.
Kevin Danso – Handled Villa’s attacking threats reasonably well and provided danger from his long throws, one of which nearly led to a goal for Odobert. Picked up a yellow card late on, and conceded two goals, could have been a much better first start. 5.
Micky van de Ven – Part of a defensive unit that allowed two long-range strikes to find the net. Could do little to prevent either goal, but it will still feel like a disappointing outing for the Dutchman. 5.
Djed Spence – Disciplined in his defensive work but allowed Buendia too much space for Villa’s second goal, sticking out a lazy foot to block the shot. 5.
Joao Palhinha – One of Tottenham’s better players on the day. Broke up play effectively, kept possession moving, and came close to scoring, only to be denied by Martinez. But with long-range strikes leading to goals, questions would be asked of the holding midfielders. 6.
Rodrigo Bentancur – Marked improvement from his recent performances, with a goal and contributed well both in possession and out of it. Offered a good balance in midfield, but with two long-range strikes coming from his side of the pivot, it indeed was not a perfect outing. 5.
Xavi Simons – The Dutchman struggled to influence proceedings in the final third. Could not create any real openings or moments of quality through the middle. 4.
Mohammed Kudus – Failed to impact the game consistently. Showed flashes of intent in the first half but faded after the break, rarely beating his man or linking up effectively. 5.
Mathys Tel – Bright in the first half with good movement and energy, but lost influence as the game wore on. Substituted in the second period after a quieter display. 4.
Wilson Odobert – Energetic and direct, constantly looked to drive forward with the ball. Lacked end product, however, and could not convert his efforts into meaningful chances. 4.
Substitutes
Richarlison – Replaced Tel and had more than 30 minutes to make an impact, but did not trouble the Villa defence. 5.
Lucas Bergvall – Came on for Simons but had too little time to influence proceedings. N/A.
Kolo Muani – Made his return after a month out, replacing Odobert for the closing stages. He had a good opportunity to at least test Martinez, but failed to connect with a loose ball in the box following a corner. N/A.
Pape Sarr – Came on for Rodrigo Bentancur. N/A.
Brennan Johnson – Replaced Spence as Thomas Frank looked for an equaliser, had a good chance from inside the box, but fired well over. N/A.
