Tottenham lost 2-0 at Manchester United on Saturday in the Premier League's early kick-off and here are our Spurs player ratings from the match. .

Thomas Frank's side went into the game in better form, unbeaten in four matches across all competitions after their 2-2 draw with title-chasers Manchester City last weekend, but they took on a United side at Old Trafford also on an upward curve under interim boss and former Spurs midfielder Michael Carrick.

Frank had captain Cristian Romero, who had to leave the City game at half-time due to illness, and Micky van de Ven both in his starting line-up. Pape Matar Sarr and Wilson Odobert came into the side among three changes from the draw with Pep Guardiola's side.

Both sides had half chances in the first period with Spurs enjoying a bright spell before the key moment came on 29 minutes when Cristian Romero caught Casemiro on the ankle with his studs after a high follow through. The Tottenham captain was shown a red card and will now miss the next four games in his fourth suspension of the season with a fifth for accumulated yellow cards looming.

United scored just nine minutes later with the away side asleep from a short corner that was worked to Bryan Mbeumo on the edge of the box and he was unmarked to sweep the ball into the far right corner.

Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario was called into numerous saves and the 10-man visitors lost Destiny Udogie to another injury.

With Spurs starting to tire, Frank made three changes and the team immediately lost their defensive discipline allowing United to score a second. Diogo Dalot hit a deep cross that Bruno Fernandes steered it into the far corner.

Here are our Tottenham player ratings:

Guglielmo Vicario

Pushed away Casemiro's early powerful effort from distance and made a great flying tip over to deny the midfielder's header before the break. Couldn't get to Mbeumo's precise finish in between. Stopped Amad with an inch-perfect sliding challenge before the break. Made another couple of flying saves in the first 15 minutes of the second half, first to push over Shaw's powerful effort and then to tip away Dalot's curling strike. Did hit one dreadful pass 67 minutes in that almost caused Spurs problems. Couldn't do much about Fernandes' low effort. 8

Archie Gray

Just 19-years-old yet one of the more disciplined players on the pitch for Tottenham until the moment he lost Fernandes for United's second goal. Solid in the tackle and with his use of the ball on the whole and made some good interceptions. Would have got a higher mark but for the Fernandes moment. 7

Cristian Romero

Started the game off the pace somewhat and then saw red after catching Casemiro on the ankle with his studs from the follow through as he kicked the ball. After his comments about the team having so few players available, the Spurs captain will now miss the next four matches and is closing in on a fourth suspension this season. Even if some might doubt the red card, it's just happening too frequently for a club captain and an experienced player. He's had the joint most red cards (four) of any Premier League player since he arrived at Tottenham and the joint most in Premier League history for a Spurs player with Younes Kaboul. 3

Micky van de Ven

Also looked off the pace in the first half at times but was better in the second half. Went on one trademark run up the pitch to win a free-kick for Spurs. Out of the box for United's second. 6

Destiny Udogie

Picked up a yellow card for bringing down Amad. Was solid enough though until picking up yet another injury and having to come off in the second half. 6

Joao Palhinha

Back in midfield and he crunched into challenges, including one that earned him a yellow card. Tried to keep the tempo up in the tiring Spurs team before coming off ahead of the second United goal. 6

Pape Matar Sarr

A bright presence in the first half but couldn't get near Mbeumo's low shot. Gave Spurs legs in the centre of the pitch with their reduced numbers. 7

Wilson Odobert

Sacrificed for Dragusin after the red card but hadn't done much before that. 5

Conor Gallagher

Had an early chance when Xavi picked out his run but he sent a tame effort at the keeper. Worked himself into the ground until he came off before Fernandes' goal. 6

Xavi Simons

Sent a lovely ball into Gallagher's path that the midfielder should have done better with. Had a couple of efforts at goal and attempted to get Spurs' 10 men towards the opposition goal. Tidy in a lot of what he did but couldn't find a way through. 6

Dominic Solanke

Battled away up top in a thankless role, especially after the red card. Came off before United's second goal. 5

Subs

Radu Dragusin

Did well on the whole against the waves of United attacks against Spurs' 10 men. Couldn't get to Dalot's cross for the second goal. 6

Souza

On for his debut at Old Trafford and embarked on one long run down the left past a few challenges. Didn't look out of place. 6

Mathys Tel

Came on in the final 10 minutes and tried to get at the United defence. N/A

Randal Kolo Muani

Offered little after coming on in the late triple change. N/A

Yves Bissouma

Tried to cover for the absence Van de Ven for the second goal but got nowhere near. N/A
