Tottenham threw away the lead to draw 1-1 with Sunderland in the Premier League on Sunday and here are our Spurs player ratings.

Thomas Frank made two changes to to the team that drew 0-0 at Brentford and culminated in him being booed by the travelling Tottenham fans after chants of 'boring, boring Tottenham' during the encounter. The need for a more adventurous performance at home saw Mathys Tel replace Joao Palhinha while Ben Davies came in for his first start of the season to hand Djed Spence a rest.

Spurs sold Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace for £35million in the opening days of the window and instantly the timing of that decision was placed under the spotlight as Mohammed Kudus went down just 15 minutes into the contest with what looked like a muscle injury and had to come off.

It was the low point of what was a bright opening half hour from Spurs with renewed urgency in their play with an attacking formation.

They opened the scoring on the half hour mark through an unlikely source. A deep Tel corner was chested down by Cristian Romero and passed to Micky van de Ven. The Dutchman's shot reached Davies who prodded it into the net.

Spurs had further opportunities but didn't take them and then began to sit back. Sunderland duly grabbed a leveller in the 80th minute as Brian Brobbey ran in between Romero and Pedro Porro and lashed home a shot.

Here are our Spurs player ratings from the game:

Guglielmo Vicario

Couldn't stop Brobbey's rocket of an effort but did push over Le Fee's effort soon after. Didn't have too much else to do. 6

Pedro Porro

Curled in some good crosses including a late one for Palhinha but was left running over to try to cover the space left for Brobbey for the equaliser. 6

Cristian Romero

Snapped into challenges in the first half which upped the tempo at the back. Played his part in Davies' goal. Appeared to be out of position for Sunderland's equaliser and decided to be a striker for much of the game's final moments. 6

Micky van de Ven

Got an assist as his shot was prodded home by Davies. Didn't do too much wrong on his side of the pitch. 7

Ben Davies

His first start of the season for Spurs and a first goal in two years as he reacted well to knock home Van de Ven's effort. Made a couple of important interventions at the other end around a header at Roefs. Managed 88 minutes on his return and was one of Spurs' better players if not their best. 8

Rodrigo Bentancur

One of his better recent games for Spurs in recent months as he snapped into challenges and was efficient with the ball. 8

Archie Gray

Another really solid industrious display and the teenager is cementing his position in the team right now. Spurs looked poorer after his exit. 7

Mohammed Kudus

Lasted just 15 minutes before appearing to suffer a muscle injury and instantly knowing his day was done. Had been somewhat hesitant in his play before that. 5

Wilson Odobert

Bright in the number 10 role alongside his compatriot Tel. Tried to make things happen and was proactive on the ball until he got a whack in the face in the second half and came off moments later. Spurs lost their attacking impetus when he went off. 7

Mathys Tel

Brings an urgency most of his team-mates don't and caused constant problems for Sunderland down his left flank. Had an early shot saved and sent in the corner that led to Davies' goal. Played a great ball over the top to Richarlison who just had to pass it across to Kolo Muani but took too long. 7

Richarlison

Heavily involved in the first half which ended with an acrobatic effort wide. Should have passed earlier to Kolo Muani in the second half while on a quick break. A battling display without much quality in the final third. 5

Subs

Randal Kolo Muani

Replaced Kudus and brought a more direct style to the wing in the first period. Very laid back though with some of his touches in the second half. 5

Lucas Bergvall

Came on for Odobert but wasn't able to replicate his attacking intent and had a nightmare with a long throw that slipped out of his hands before he launched it. 5

Joao Palhinha

Sent a late header just wide but his introduction for Gray led to Spurs sitting back deeper. 5

Dane Scarlett

A rare appearance in the final stages but barely touched the ball. N/A

Djed Spence

Came on for Davies in the final moments. N/A
