Tottenham plot move for 23-year-old Frenchman in case they miss out on Savinho

Tottenham Hotspur have turned their attention to a Monaco attacker after their efforts to bring Savinho to North London failed.

Transfer deadline day is fewer than two weeks away and Tottenham Hotspur are looking to finalise some deals. A recent report refuted claims that Tottenham agreed a deal to sign Eberechi Eze. However, it feels like a matter of time before the move will take place.

This resolves the lack of attacking midfield depth in the Tottenham first-team squad, but there is still a shortage of quality left-wingers.

Brennan Johnson played in the position against Burnley and he managed to get on the scoresheet, but Thomas Frank will ideally want someone more suited to the role.

Spurs were hoping to land Savinho from Manchester City, but Pep Guardiola closed the door on him joining Tottenham. As a result, the North London club are considering alternative options.

Tottenham identify Maghnes Akliouche as Savinho alternative

Tottenham only have so much time to complete any further signings, so identifying new players must be done swiftly. According to the Independent, Spurs are looking at Maghnes Akliouche as a Savinho alternative.

The 23-year-old plays for AS Monaco and helped them to a third-place finish in Ligue 1 last season. He totalled five goals and 10 assists in 32 league appearances and also bagged two goals and two assists in the Champions League.

Akilouche has started the new season as he means to go on, getting a goal in Monaco’s first match of the season, which resulted in a 3-1 victory over Le Havre.

Maghnes Akilouche is not a natural left winger either

Like Johnson, Akilouche is less familiar with playing on the left wing. He is usually selected on the right or as an attacking midfielder. He could well be used in those positions in the future, but for now, he is likely to start on the left, should he make the move to North London.

Akilouche is left-footed, so while shooting may come less favourably, he should still be effective at what he does best, which is creating chances for his teammates.
