Tottenham Hotspur have handed Thomas Frank a major boost by convincing one of his key leaders to sign a new contract in North London, and fans will be overjoyed.
Thomas Frank has already made major changes to his Tottenham squad since taking over the N17 hotseat, most notably his choice of captain.
With Heung-min Son departing the club after 10 years of service, and past leaders like Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris having also moved on in recent windows, Spurs had a captaincy void to fill this summer.
It was announced before Tottenham’s UEFA Super Cup match against PSG that Cristian Romero would become the new Spurs captain, with the World Cup and Copa America winner being the obvious choice.
Now, it seems Thomas Frank has yet more good news to deliver on the Argentine centre-back.
Cristian Romero signs new contract with Tottenham Hotspur
It has been reported in recent days that Tottenham are determined to tie Romero down to a new long-term contract, with the club captain only having two years left on his deal.
However, claims were made earlier in the summer that Romero had rejected offers from Spurs to become the best-paid player at the club because he wanted to secure a transfer away.
Now it seems the Argentine has made a U-turn on his future, with reliable Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe reporting that Romero has signed a new contract with the club.

This information has also been reinforced by Sky Sports’ Luca Bendoni, who added that Romero’s new contract will run until June 2029.
Romero’s new deal is just as important as a new Spurs signing
Ledley King has already argued that keeping Romero was one of Tottenham’s most important jobs this summer, with the World Cup winner being linked with a move to Atletico Madrid.
Former Spurs centre-back, Steven Caulker, also argued that keeping Romero could define Tottenham’s season. However, it seems that Daniel Levy and co have gone one better than merely keeping the new club captain – they have extended his deal as well.
It seems like the offer of improved wages and the responsibility of leading Tottenham into a brand-new era as captain have convinced Romero to commit the peak years of his career to the Lilywhites.
