Tottenham receive £13m Turkey bid for player who featured against PSG and Burnley

Tottenham Hotspur have received an offer from Turkey for a player who started the UEFA Super Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

On Monday, Cristian Romero put pen to paper on a new four-year contract at Tottenham, with the news coming as a major boost to the North London side.

However, another senior player, who started against PSG and came on against Burnley, is yet to commit to a new deal despite being in the final year of his contract.

The player in question is Rodrigo Bentancur, who has been praised by Thomas Frank, but it has now been suggested that an exit might be on the cards for the Uruguayan.

Fenerbahce launch offer for Tottenham’s Rodrigo Bentancur

It has now been reported by Sabah (as relayed by Sport Witness) that Fenerbahce have turned their attention to signing Bentancur from Tottenham in the final week and a half of the transfer window.

The Turkish giants have now reportedly made an offer of €15m (£13m) to Spurs for the 28-year-old, but that has not been enough to do the deal.

The outlet says that Tottenham Hotspur value Bentancur at €25m (£21.6m), with negotiations between Fenerbahce and the North London side currently ongoing.

That would certainly be surprising news, considering that Bentancur is a major part of Frank’s midfield plans. This report from Turkey can perhaps be taken with more than a pinch of salt.

Fenerbahce see Bentancur as a realistic target

Sabah say that the Super Lig club had originally set their sights on Aston Villa’s Youri Tielemans but have now turned their attention to Bentancur.

This is because they see the Spurs man as a ‘more realistic option’ after the Lilywhites secured Joao Palhinha’s services, which they believe could open the door to the former Juventus man’s sale.

However, given how heavily Bentancur has been involved in Frank’s plans so far, it would come as a major surprise to Spurs fans if the midfielder is sold.
