A highly-rated forward, who has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham, has given his clearest indication yet that he wants to make a big move.
Tottenham showed with their acquisition of Alejo Veliz two years ago that the club are keeping an eye on the best emerging talent from South America.
While things may not have worked out for the Argentine striker at Spurs so far, that has seemingly not put off the Lilywhites from pursuing another teenager, who is turning a lot of heads on the continent.
Regular readers of Spurs Web will be aware that Vasco Da Gama starlet Rayan has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham over recent weeks, and the youngster has now made a big admission ahead of the January window.
Tottenham target Rayan speaks about European desire
Some sources have even claimed over recent weeks that Spurs have done groundwork on securing a work permit for Rayan ahead of a potential January transfer.
It has been revealed that the Tottenham target has a release clause of €40m (£34.3m) in his contract with Vasco, and he has now spoken of his desire to move to Europe.
The wide-forward admitted that he has been seeking advice from manager Fernando Diniz and teammate Philippe Coutinho, who made the same leap from Vasco to Europe as a teenager.
Rayan told Globo Esporte: “Some players go to Europe early but end up coming back. So I ask Coutinho for help. I want to make my name in Europe and then make my name here at Vasco again. He tells me what I need to do, just like Diniz does.
“You have to work on and off the pitch. With a psychologist, a nutritionist, and arrive ready to stay,” he added. With the moment I’m living and with Diniz’s support, I know I can reach the national team and play in Europe. God is making a very special path for me.”
Rayan admits his game has been transformed recently
A few days ago, Fernando Diniz said that the Spurs target is a ‘complete’ forward with very few weaknesses in his game.
The youngster has now shed light on the aspects of his game that he has improved over the last 12 months as a result of working closely with the Vasco boss.
Rayan said: “I’ve improved a lot in my defensive game. Before, we defended in a medium or low block. With him, I improved the high press. He demands a lot. Mark first, then play. I always try to run as fast as possible to the other side because he pushes me hard there.”
