Tottenham receive worrying injury update on Pape Sarr ahead of North London derby

Senegalese outlets have provided an update on the fitness of Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr after he was forced off with an injury at the weekend.

Tottenham have an extremely bloated injury list at the moment, and they can ill-afford losing another key man before their trip to the Emirates on Sunday.

However, that now seems a big possibility after Pape Sarr was forced off with an injury during Senegal’s 2-0 loss to Brazil on Saturday.

Initially, Senegal boss Pape Thiaw suggested that Sarr’s injury was not serious and that the Tottenham man was only taken off as a precaution, and we have now had a further update on his situation.

Pape Sarr has returned to Tottenham due to injury

Wiw Sport now report that the midfielder will not play any part in Senegal’s friendly against Kenya this afternoon due to the injury he sustained at the weekend.

The 23-year-old has not travelled with the national squad to Turkey and has instead returned to Spurs to recover from his injury.

The outlet quotes the Senegal head coach saying about the Tottenham midfielder: “We left him in London. He took a knock [against Brazil]. So, we felt it would be difficult for him to recover in just two days. Since we were in his home city, we preferred to leave him at the disposal of his club so he could receive treatment there.”

Sarr is unlikely to start for Spurs against Arsenal

We know that Thomas Frank is a big fan of the Rodrigo Bentancur-Joao Palhinha double-pivot, especially in away games.

Given the quality of opposition the Lilywhites are going up against on Sunday, one would expect Frank to revert to the same pairing in the base of the Tottenham midfield.

However, Sarr’s injury could deprive him of the option to play the Senegalese star as his number ten, which the Dane has done on occasions this season.

Additionally, the 23-year-old will be more than a handy option to bring on from the bench, which is why his fitness will be crucial for Spurs ahead of the big derby.
