Tottenham reject £6m bid and scare South American club away from a deal

Tottenham Hotspur have just turned down an offer for Alejo Veliz, with the North London club making it clear that a bigger bid is required to prise the Argentine striker away from Hotspur Way.

Over the last two weeks, reports from Argentina have claimed that Racing Club de Avellaneda are making a significant push to land Veliz.

A few days ago, it emerged that Racing have not received a response from Tottenham after making an offer from Veliz.

It turns out that a response has now arrived from the Premier League side and it is not the one that the Primera Division side were hoping for.

Tottenham have turned down Alejo Veliz offer

According to a report from Ole (as relayed by Sport Witness) Racing submitted an offer of $7m (£6m) for the centre-forward, but it was deemed insufficient by the Europa League winners, who have now sent it back.

Tottenham are asking for a bigger offer and to make matters even more complicated for Racing, Veliz prefers a return to Rosario Central.

Sport Witness also relay information from Racing de Alma, who back up the claim about the club’s rejected offer, revealing that it comes as a major ‘setback’ for Racing.

They say that the bid is considered ‘insufficient’ by Thomas Frank’s men and the South American side are not expected to make an improved offer as they feel it is ‘impossible’ for the negotiations to be revived.

Veliz is holding out for a move to Rosaria Central

This report comes just a couple of days after it emerged that Rosario Central are pushing ahead with a move to re-sign Veliz.

The update explained that the club want to sign the forward on loan and are trying to convince Tottenham Hotspur to sanction the deal while the Lilywhites would prefer a permanent sale.

It was explained that Rosario know that Veliz only wants to play for them if he returns to Argentina, and they are trying to use the player’s desire as a ‘trump card’ to push through the signing.
