Tottenham risk losing ‘top talent’ despite two Champions League squad appearances

Tottenham Hotspur are at risk of losing one of their youngsters, who was coveted by several clubs during the January window.

Tottenham are in the midst of another major injury crisis, which has severely tested their squad depth over recent weeks.

Due to the club’s injury situation, Thomas Frank has been forced to name several of the club’s academy youngsters in his matchday squad over the course of the season.

A 17-year-old winger, who has made the bench this season for the senior side, could potentially be on his way out this summer.

Tottenham could lose winger Tynan Thompson

Tynan Thompson has been an unused substitute for Tottenham in the Carabao Cup this season, and the 17-year-old is still waiting for his senior debut for the Lilywhites. He was even on the bench twice in the Champions League.

The teenager has impressed in Premier League 2 this term, with one goal and four assists in nine appearances.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur rejected several offers for Thompson in January, but the winger is now considering his future at the club.

O’Rourke wrote on X: “Tottenham risk losing top talent Tynan Thompson with the player considering his future at the club after they rejected several offers for the England U18 international in the January transfer window.”

Why Spurs will be wary of their young talent being poached

Tottenham have focused on strengthening their academy over the last few transfer windows, having bought some exciting young talents to Hotspur Way.

While that is a smart long-term strategy, it only works if those youngsters are given the right tools to develop, and there is a clear pathway into the first team.

Tottenham have to be wary of having their young starlets poached by clubs who are willing to promise more first-team opportunities, which is a very real risk if the academy players like Thompson do not see a clear path forward at N17.
