Tottenham’s push to sign Yan Diomande faces weird obstacle involving Jay-Z’s agency

Tottenham Hotspur have just discovered that a deal for Yan Diomande may be even more challenging to pull off than they initially expected.

It has emerged over recent days that Spurs are prepared to remove their tight wage structure if they manage to stay up in the Premier League.

In fact, reports indicate that Tottenham are prepared to show their ambition in the summer as they undertake a squad rebuild after another poor campaign.

The Lilywhites have been keen on a Bundesliga attacker since before the January window, but a fresh development may complicate that move.

Dispute over representation of Tottenham target Yan Diomande

Tottenham were reportedly put off from signing Yan Diomande in January due to his huge price tag, but it has been claimed by several sources that Spurs will contest for the Leipzig star’s signature again in the summer.

However, The Telegraph have now revealed that the 19-year-old is at the centre of a bizarre dispute regarding his representation.

The report reveals that Roc Nation, the agency founded by hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, announced at the end of the January window that Diomande had signed with them.

However, the teenager was originally with Maxidel Management, the agency run by Leeds winger Max Gradel, and it was previously announced on January 1 that the winger had renewed his contract with them.

It is now unclear who will represent the pacey wide-man going forward, with Maxidel insisting that the player ‘remains contractually bound to our agency’.

Their statement reads: “It is therefore with great surprise that we are now discovering that an engagement may have been made in parallel with another agency, outside of any proper procedure and without respect for our contractual rights.

“In light of this situation, Maxidel Management will take all necessary measures to protect its rights and defend its interests through the appropriate legal channels.”

Diomande’s representation row could be an obstacle to summer transfer

The Telegraph reveals that Maxidel have lodged paperwork, which has already been approved by the football federations in Germany, Spain and England.

The agency claims that the player has an image rights contract with them until 2031, and they have the exclusive mandate to sell him.

The case may thus be eventually heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas), and the lack of clarity over Diomande’s representation represents an obstacle to the winger’s hopes of a smooth summer transfer.
