Tottenham’s stance on Samu Aghehowa as price drops significantly from £87m release clause

A new report has explained what Tottenham’s current stance is regarding a move for Porto striker Samu Aghehowa in January.

Aghehowa has not been able to stop scoring since joining Porto from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024.

The 21-year-old has been on fire in front of goal since the start of the season, with eight goals to his name in nine matches across all competitions.

It first emerged several weeks ago that Spurs are keeping an eye on Aghehowa, and since then, some sources have suggested that Fabio Paratici will spearhead Tottenham’s pursuit of the Porto man.

Tottenham’s stance on Samu Aghehowa revealed

TEAMtalk have now become the latest outlet to credit the Lilywhites with an interest in the Spain international.

The report says that Thomas Frank’s men are continuing to track the former Atletico Madrid striker ahead of January, but so far, they have not committed to an active pursuit of the player.

The outlet’s sources have said that while Aghehowa is one of several strikers on Tottenham’s radar, it is too early to confirm whether the Lilywhites will make a concrete move for the forward.

The publication adds that the Spaniard’s release clause stands at £87m, but Porto would not consider selling him for less than £70m.

Porto’s stance on Aghehowa may soften

This claim by TEAMtalk on Porto’s asking price was contradicted a couple of days ago by another outlet, which suggested that Thomas Frank’s men may not need to pay a premium for the centre-forward.

That particular report was carried by CaughtOffside, who claimed that Porto’s stance on Aghehowa may soften as the club are in a difficult financial position.

Additionally, it was asserted that Tottenham Hotspur had already held conversations with Francesco Farioli’s men over signing the striker on an initial loan deal with an option to buy.
