Tottenham should be very excited about Luka Vuskovic’s latest table-topping attribute

1 day ago 35

Tottenham loanee Luka Vuskovic has already had quite the impact at Hamburg, and one statistic shows he is in a different league to most defenders in his age category.

Not a single week seems to pass by without Luka Vuskovic doing something special. This was highlighted by Vuskovic winning the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month award for September.

Over the international break, Vuskovic hit the post with a free kick, before his Croatia under-21s teammate scored on the rebound. The 18-year-old is not just impressing for his club, but for his country as well.

Tottenham are expected to sign a new centre-back in January. However, Vuskovic is playing so well that he could be the defender Thomas Frank needs.

Tottenham’s Luka Vuskovic tops aerial duels stat

Data MB previously released a graph which displayed Vuskovic leading the way for aerial duels won per 90 minutes amongst under-23s players in the top five European leagues.

A new DataMB table has been expanded to show this stat, including players from the top seven highest-ranked leagues, and Vuskovic again ranks higher than his peers.

The table shows that the 6ft 4in defender wins an average of 6.72 aerial duels per 90 minutes. PSV Eindhoven’s Ryan Flamingo is second on the list, winning an average of 5.21 aerial duels.

Thomas Frank should give his full trust to Vuskovic next season

Vuskovic might be doing well now, but breaking into the Tottenham first-team as a teenage defender is no easy accomplishment. Archie Gray managed this last season, but only as a result of an injury crisis in the Tottenham first-team squad.

However, Vuskovic has all the makings of a great defender and Spurs need to allow him to develop once he returns. Being on loan is the right thing for the 18-year-old now, but he deserves a proper chance at Tottenham next season.
