Tottenham’s stance on a potential Mathys Tel transfer has now been revealed with interest in the versatile forward heating up.

Mathys Tel has found himself in the Tottenham Hotspur transfer rumour mill in recent weeks as the window begins to heat up.

Paris FC have shown interest in Tel and have even offered to play him in his preferred position in a bid to tempt him to move ahead of the World Cup.

AS Roma have also shown interest in signing Tel, who struggled for game time in the first half of the season.

Tottenham set to block Mathys Tel transfer

Football Insider has now revealed that Tottenham have no plans to allow Mathys Tel leave during the January transfer window.

It is understood that the north London club is willing to go as far as blocking both loan and permanent offers for the French forward.

Explaining the situation while discussing Tottenham’s stance on the Transfer Insider podcast, Pete O Rourke outlined why Spurs are reluctant to sanction any departures, saying: “Yeah, it is difficult. Right now Spurs do not want to let anybody go.

“They have already seen Brennan Johnson leave to join Crystal Palace, so that has weakened their attacking options, and they have had injury problems all season.

“James Maddison has been out long-term, Dejan Kulusevski has been out long-term. They have struggled for goals up front as well.

“This is all being driven by Mathys Tel, who is keen on a move away to boost his chances of making France’s World Cup squad.

“He has struggled to make an impact under Thomas Frank, only started six games this season, but he has got three goals for Tottenham.

“As things stand, Frank does not want to lose any of his squad because he needs them if Tottenham are to turn around their fortunes.”

Why Mathys Tel still matters for Spurs

Tel has struggled for game time for much of the season, managing just eight starts in 19 appearances under Thomas Frank.

However, the young forward has since seen an upturn in his appearance numbers, having started the last four games for Tottenham, and scoring once in that time.

While Tel could not get on the scoresheet against West Ham, Frank’s decision to take him off early proved an unpopular one amongst fans who thought the Frenchman was a bright spark.

Injuries have hit the Spurs attack, with Richarlison, Mohammed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison all sidelined.

Meanwhile, Dominic Solanke is still recovering from injury, making Tel’s presence in the team even more important.
