Tottenham star accused of letting the team down after giving Wolves the ball eight times

Former Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill has singled out one of Thomas Frank’s favourites for criticism after his showing in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw to Wolves.

Frank and Tottenham have been slammed by pundits for their performance against Wolves, with many feeling that the Lilywhites were not even deserving of a point.

The 51-year-old is quickly learning what life at a ‘Big Six’ club is like, as poor performances at home against beatable opposition are not as tolerated at N17 as it was at his former club.

Frank has admitted that Tottenham have not been good enough at home at times this season, and one pundit believes that the Dane got the selection wrong against Wolves.

Martin O’Neill blasts Rodrigo Bentancur for his performance in Tottenham vs Wolves

In his first interview as Tottenham boss back in the summer, Frank named Bentancur as one of the players he is most looking forward to working with.

However, O’Neill believes that it is the Uruguayan who let his side down with his sloppy play in possession during the first half on Saturday.

The former Villa boss told Premier League Live (27/09/25): “At half-time, we were talking about Bentancur, he’s in and out, he’s in and out of the game.

“You can’t afford a top-quality midfield player to be out of the game for 15 or 20 minutes. At a good spell, in any game, let alone at home.”

Frank defends Bentancur and his midfield selection

However, the Tottenham boss does not agree with those who are critical of his decision to pair Bentancur with Joao Palhinha in midfield.

Frank claimed that Spurs were worse against Wolves after Bentancur came off on 62 minutes, and suggested that his side’s first-half performance was actually better.

It will be interesting to see if the Dane is now tempted to give Archie Gray more opportunities in midfield, particularly given how well two of his other young guns, Lucas Bergvall and Pape Sarr, have gone so far this season.
