One Tottenham Hotspur star has been recognised for his recent display by earning a place in WhoScored’s Premier League team of the week after a standout performance against Brighton.
Tottenham Hotspur’s last Premier League outing was anything but straightforward, as Thomas Frank’s men were forced to dig deep and claw their way back from two goals down.
Richarlison pulled one back just before the break, reacting quickest to a Mohammed Kudus effort and finishing neatly from close range.
The leveller came in the second half when Kudus’ cross was diverted into his own net by Jan Paul van Hecke, sealing Tottenham’s comeback against Brighton and Hove Albion and ensuring the points were shared.
Richarlison earns WhoScored Premier League recognition
It was the sort of performance that Thomas Frank was eager to highlight, with the Dane quick to praise the resilience and fighting spirit his players showed in clawing their way back.
That spirit was epitomised by Richarlison, whose contribution has now been recognised by WhoScored, with the Brazilian forward included in their Premier League team of the week.
The 28-year-old was handed a rating of 7.84 for his efforts against Brighton, joining Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike and a number of other top performers from matchday five in the weekly XI.
Richarlison stepping up for Tottenham under Thomas Frank
Richarlison has certainly stepped up this season, putting behind him a campaign to forget last year, where injuries and inconsistency limited his impact and kept him sidelined for long spells.
The Brazil international has started in four of the opening five league matches under Thomas Frank and has already scored three times in the Premier League, a sharp contrast to his struggles in the previous campaign.
With Dominic Solanke still working his way back to full fitness after injuries disrupted his start to this season, Richarlison has taken on the responsibility of leading the line and shown Frank he can be trusted as the focal point in attack.
