Tottenham starlet breaks his finger by punching goalpost out of frustration

Tottenham’s Luka Vuskovic has admitted that he sustained an injury during his home debut for Hamburg, and the injury happened due to a bizarre reason when the ball was not even in play.

The on-loan Tottenham man had a tough start to life in the Bundesliga, with Vuskovic and Hamburg being ripped to shreds by Tottenham legend Harry Kane in the centre-back’s debut for the newly-promoted club.

However, the 18-year-old was able to put that performance out of his mind and help Hamburg to their first win of the season against Heidenheim on Saturday.

Vuskovic scored the opening goal for Hamburg with a volley, making history by becoming the first HSV player to score in the Bundesliga for seven years, but there was one incident in the game that he regrets.

Tottenham’s Luka Vuskovic admits he broke his finger on Saturday

After netting his goal, the Tottenham Hotspur man had an opportunity to score a second in the first half, but he failed to convert the opportunity.

While it did not matter as Hamburg were able to get all three points, the teenager was frustrated at his miss and smacked the goalpost with his right hand. He admitted after the game that he had likely broken a finger.

Vuskovic told Hamburger Morgenpost (as relayed by The Standard) about the incident: “I probably broke a finger. It’s an old injury. I broke my finger a few months ago. But I was so angry about missing such a great opportunity that I hit the post with my hand. It will heal, don’t worry.”

Despite scoring on his home debut and making history, the Tottenham loanee’s performance was anything but flawless.

Local German media have said that Vuskovic is yet to fully convince defensively, revealing that he made some rash errors against Heidenheim.

However, that is to be expected for an 18-year-old playing in one of the top five leagues for the first time, and one would expect the Croat to learn from his mistakes.
