Tottenham submit improved eight-figure bid to sign Souza as Chelsea circle

1 day ago 4

Tottenham Hotspur have now sent in an improved bid for 19-year-old Brazilian full-back Souza, who they are keen to land this winter window.

Tottenham Hotspur have been exploring options to add depth to their defence, with Brazilian left-back Souza emerging as one of the names under consideration.

Earlier this month, Spurs were reported to have submitted an £8 million bid for Souza, an offer that was swiftly rejected for falling below the Brazilian club’s valuation.

Despite that rejection, it is understood that Tottenham have remained in contact with Santos, who are demanding a total €30m (£26m) package for the teenager, although they are willing to accept around half of that fee upfront with the remainder structured as add-ons.

Tottenham submit improved bid for Souza amid Chelsea interest

A fresh report from journalist Ben Jacobs now claims that Spurs have made an improved offer to Santos worth in the region of €15m (£13m) for Brazilian left-back Souza.

It is believed that the 19-year-old full-back is keen on the move, although Santos are yet to respond, with the Brazilian club pushing for a sell-on clause to be included as part of any agreement.

Negotiations are ongoing as Tottenham look to find common ground with Santos over the structure of the deal.

Spurs competition and the need for defensive cover

Spurs are not the only club tracking Souza this winter, with Premier League rivals Chelsea also interested in signing the youngster.

However, it has previously been reported that Souza himself is keen on a move to Tottenham, although an agreement with Santos must be reached before any discussions over personal terms can progress.

Tottenham are currently short of full-back cover, particularly given Destiny Udogie’s recurring injury issues and the lack of depth on the right side of defence.

With an improved offer now submitted, it remains to be seen whether Santos will give the green light to Thomas Frank’s side as they look to strengthen their defensive ranks.
