Tottenham Hotspur have been tormented by injuries from the very start of the season, but they will have to deal with another bad one
Xavi Simons sustained what could be a serious knee injury during Tottenham Hotspur's clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Dutchman was named in Roberto De Zerbi's starting line-up for the journey to Molineux, but managed only 63 minutes before appearing to twist his knee on the surface.
Simons was competing with Hugo Bueno for possession when his right leg became trapped in the turf, immediately collapsing in agony. Following swift attention from medical personnel, the 23-year-old was eventually carried from the pitch on a stretcher, with his campaign now presumably finished.
Lucas Bergvall was summoned to take Simons' place for the remainder of the fixture, which ended with Joao Palhinha scoring a late goal to secure a 1-0 victory, Spurs' first Premier League win of 2026.
De Zerbi stated after the game: "Solanke a muscular injury, Xavi it's a problem with his knee. We go to see in the next few days.
"Solanke it's not a big problem, I don't know how many games we lose him. I would like to know more about Xavi though because you know the knee, it's always different to the muscles. He felt pain but now I spoke with him and he feels better than the beginning when he got his injury."
Simons, who scored a fine goal in last week's draw with Tottenham, will be a huge miss, particularly with the lengthy list of stars who were absent before the clash.

Guglielmo Vicario has yet to return following hernia surgery towards the end of last month, while Dejan Kulusevski has not featured for his club this season due to his own knee problem.
Ben Davies faces the remainder of the campaign on the side-lines after fracturing his ankle against West Ham in January, while Mohammed Kudus remains side-lined with a thigh complaint.
Wilson Odobert, Pape Sarr and Destiny Udogie were also absent from the Midlands trip this weekend. Additionally, Spurs received a substantial injury setback earlier this month when club captain Cristian Romero was withdrawn during a 1-0 defeat to Sunderland AFC.
The Argentine defender had been attempting to shield the ball from Brian Brobbey, allowing Antonin Kinsky to collect comfortably, when the opposing striker nudged him in the back. The contact caused Romero's knee to clash with Kinsky's head, leaving both players requiring treatment on the pitch.
While Kinsky was able to continue after having his head bandaged, Romero was not so fortunate. The centre-back was immediately withdrawn from the action, with the full extent of his injury emerging shortly afterwards - a partial ACL tear.
Consequently, Romero faces not only the remainder of the season on the sidelines at Spurs, but his participation in this summer's World Cup is also in serious doubt.
The Lilywhites would have climbed out of the relegation zone, had West Ham United not found a last-minute winner to beat Everton 2-1.
While De Zerbi's side delivered on their end, through Palhinha, they had to content themselves with remaining where they were at the start of the day. Spurs remain in 18th place in the Premier League table, sitting two points from safety with merely four fixtures remaining.
Next up for the club is a challenging visit to Villa Park on Sunday, 3rd May. Subsequent encounters in May against Leeds United, Chelsea and Everton could ultimately determine whether Spurs retain their Premier League status for the forthcoming campaign.
