Thomas Frank has made two changes to his Tottenham team as they welcome Sunderland in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The drab draw at Brentford saw Frank being booed into the new year by the travelling Tottenham fans as he approached them to applaud their efforts. The supporters had sung 'boring, boring Tottenham' during the encounter and chanted for former players and managers throughout another dull performance, albeit with a second clean sheet in a row.
The need for a more adventurous performance at home has seen Frank move away from the more defensive Rodrigo Bentancur and Joao Palhinha partnership in the centre of the pitch.
With Lucas Bergvall back on the bench Frank has got creative himself in the absence of his sole fit playmaker Xavi Simons, who is serving the final game of his three-match suspension, with Mohammed Kudus seemingly in a more central role with Archie Gray moving back alongside one Bentancur.
With Spurs selling Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace for £35million in the opening days of the window, Frank cannot use the Wales international and instead has Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel playing either side of Richarlison on Sunday.
Both full-backs have been playing a lot of football and that could open the door for Ben Davies to make a rare start at left-back. Young talent Luca Williams-Barnett is on the bench.
Here's the team Frank has selected:
Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Davies; Bentancur, Gray; Tel, Kudus, Odobert; Richarlison. Subs: Kinsky, Dragusin, Danso, Palhinha, Bergvall, Spence, Kolo Muani, Scarlett, Williams-Barnett.
