Journalist Pete O’Rourke is not convinced that we have heard the last of the speculation linking Harvey Elliott to Tottenham, backing the Lilywhites to complete a late deal for the Liverpool man.
While Elliott is one of the attacking midfielders most heavily linked with a move to Spurs over recent weeks, updates over the last few days have suggested that the Lilywhites may be looking beyond the 22-year-old.
It was reported by The Mirror a few days ago that RB Leipzig are now pushing forward with talks over a deal for Elliott as Spurs consider their options.
Over the weekend, The Times claimed that Tottenham have decided against pursuing Elliott after holding initial talks with Liverpool.
Harvey Elliott ticks many boxes for Tottenham
However, journalist Pete O’Rourke believes that Spurs could still make a move for the 22-year-old, suggesting that he fits the profile that the North Londoners are looking for.
He claimed that the England Under-21 international would be open to making a move to Tottenham, and the Reds would sell the midfielder to their rivals.
O’Rourke told Football Insider: “It was a bad injury to James Maddison that’s [since] been confirmed. He’s suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury, which means he will miss the majority of the new season, which is a huge blow to him and to Tottenham.
“Harvey Elliott would tick a lot of boxes – the player is open to leaving Liverpool this summer, [he] wants to be playing regular first team football, having dropped down the pecking order at Anfield.
“He had a great Under-21 Euros with England and I think, reluctantly, Liverpool would consider letting Elliott go for the right fee.”
Spurs legend would love to see Elliott at Tottenham
Tottenham legend Chris Waddle has urged the Lilywhites to do all they can to land Elliott this summer.
Waddle claimed that the attacking midfielder is a future England prospect and believes that he would have the right platform at N17 to fulfil his potential.
However, the signing may not be too popular with Spurs fans, given the run-ins Elliott has had with Tottenham players in the past.
