Tottenham tipped to think about recalling two players in January amid loan struggles

Tottenham Hotspur could be forced into making key loan decisions in January, with reports suggesting that two of their players could be set for early recalls following difficult spells away from north London.

The 2025/26 season is already in full swing for teams across the world, including Tottenham Hotspur, who have endured a mixed start to life under Thomas Frank.

Spurs currently sit fifth in the Premier League, which is encouraging, and the expectation is that results will continue to improve as key players return from injury and the squad begins to settle.

Tottenham also have several players out on loan this season, with 13 individuals plying their trade across different leagues in search of regular football, and the club would be hoping their loanees impress as well.

While some have made positive starts, others have struggled, and reports now claim that a few could be recalled in January.

Tottenham consider recalling Manor Solomon from Villarreal loan

According to football.london, Manor Solomon is one player whose loan could be cut short, as his spell with Villarreal has not gone as planned.

The winger has managed just one La Liga start since joining the Spanish side and has been left unused in three of their last four league fixtures.

He was not included in the matchday squad for Villarreal’s 2-0 win over Espanyol due to a back issue, while in the Champions League, he has been an unused substitute in three of their four group games.

The Israeli international is currently sidelined with a back problem, which also kept him out of international duty this month, though he is expected to return after the break.

However, with limited opportunities at Villarreal, Tottenham could look to recall him in January, with a possible move elsewhere, including a return to Leeds United, being discussed if the situation does not improve.

Spurs also weighing up Jamie Donley recall

Manor Solomon is not the only loanee Tottenham are reportedly considering recalling, as Jamie Donley’s situation at Stoke City has also raised concern.

The 20-year-old forward has struggled for game time under Mark Robins, failing to start a single match in the Championship this season and making only two substitute appearances in the last thirteen league fixtures.

Donley impressed last season while he was with Leyton Orient, leading them to the promotion play-offs, while winning their player of the season award after scoring eight goals and grabbing ten assists in 39 appearances.

He has not been included in Stoke’s past three matchday squads and has played just seventy-seven minutes of Championship football across four appearances.

Tottenham are understood to be monitoring Donley’s situation closely, as they would not want his development to stall due to a lack of competitive minutes.

A recall in January could therefore be on the cards if his involvement does not improve, with the club likely to reassess his loan and find an environment better suited to his progression.
