Tottenham told they got three transfer decisions wrong including star who 'no one fancies'

Tottenham have been called out by their former manager for making three poor transfer decisions

Tim Sherwood has slammed the Tottenham hierarchy for not recalling three players from loan this season. Tottenham’s 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace on Thursday saw them drop to 16th in the Premier League and just one point clear of the relegation zone.

The result at home marked Spurs’ fifth loss in a row and their 11th game without a win, as well as new interim manager Igor Tudor’s third defeat in as many games since taking over. The north Londoners are clearly lacking in quality, especially in their bench options, which has been exacerbated by constant injuries.

But former Spurs manager Sherwood insists the club made a grave error not to identify the need to recall several players from loan earlier this season, given how short they are on capable first-team players.

The pundit was asked on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast about 18-year-old academy winger Mikey Moore, who is currently enjoying a successful loan stint with Rangers since the start of the season.

Sherwood believes Tottenham would be in a better position if they had retained Moore’s services, as well as 19-year-old defender Luka Vuskovic, on loan at Hamburg, and 20-year-old centre-back Ashley Phillips, who is enjoying his second season on loan at Stoke City.

He said: "They loaned Moore out because there’s no pathway for him. So I think there’s a great pathway at Rangers to gain some experience. No one fancied him, at the moment.

"They would probably argue that they sent him out for experience, but I would argue he’s better than what you’ve got, so bring him back and play him in games because not only would he be better than some of the players you have signed, who are in your squad, but you also have a shocking injury crisis.

"So not only Mikey Moore, Vuskovic should have been brought back from Hamburg in my opinion. He’s played pretty much every game, he’s a big centre-back.

"Phillips, who they signed from Blackburn, who plays every week at Stoke City, should have been brought back. Not brought back for no reason, but to play.

"It would have solved a few injury problems rather than throwing kids on the bench who never would have been near the bench. These guys should be given the opportunity. Not only Mikey, I’m not saying he's going to be the answer, but he might be.

"So I don’t know why they didn’t make that executive decision. It probably is an executive decision rather than a footballing decision. If there was a football person at the top they might have said let’s call them back from loan. That should come from the sporting director."

Moore has been performing at a high level in Scotland and earning praise for his performances under manager Danny Rohl. The teenage winger has five goals in 24 Premiership matches this season.

Vuskovic has enjoyed a breakout campaign in the Bundesliga this season, demonstrating his maturity against the likes of Harry Kane and scoring four goals. Meanwhile, Phillips has played 30 games in the Championship this season.
