According to journalist Graeme Bailey, Tottenham are set to suffer a major blow in their pursuit of a versatile attacker, who has been on their radar for a long time.
A whole host of attacking midfielders and wingers have been linked with a move to Spurs over recent weeks, and most of them have been Premier League players.
However, according to some sources, the Lilywhites are also keeping a keen eye on a Serie A starlet. It first emerged at the end of February that Tottenham’s scouts had been mightily impressed by Como’s Nico Paz.
The 21-year-old enjoyed an outstanding debut season in Serie A following his switch from Real Madrid to Como last summer, scoring six goals and providing nine assists in 35 matches last term.
Real Madrid set the record straight after Tottenham’s approach for Nico Paz
It was explained by GiveMeSport earlier this summer that Spurs may find it difficult to land Paz as Real Madrid have a buy-back clause on the Argentine.
Journalist Greame Bailey has now revealed that Los Blancos have made it clear to the versatile attacking midfielder that he is part of their long-term plans.
Bailey told TBR Football: “Spurs are one of several clubs, via various channels, that have asked about Nico Paz, but Real Madrid have stepped in to make it clear that his future is in the Spanish capital.
“In theory, Spurs, or indeed other interested clubs, could have secured a loan-type deal as Como have, but that does not appeal given there would be little to no chance of a permanent deal if he performed well.”
Tottenham have turned their attention to other alternatives
On Tuesday morning, Football Insider reported that Tottenham had abandoned their pursuit of Paz after opening talks over a deal for Savinho.
The Man City man is not the only attacker the North Londoners are focused on at the moment, with the club also turning to an experienced Premier League midfielder.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are simultaneously working on deals for both Savinho and Eberechi Eze, with the Lilywhites wanting to get both players through the door before the window slams shut.
