TOTTENHAM 3-0 SLAVIA PRAGUE: An own goal plus penalties from Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons saw Spurs pick up a crucial Champions League win

Tottenham made it back-to-back wins for the first time since mid-September as Son Heung-min watched on like a proud father.

The returning Europa League-winning skipper, back in N17 for the first time since his emotional £20million transfer to LAFC, must have wished he was back out on the turf because as Spurs ripped through Slavia Prague with relative ease.

An own goal plus penalties from Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons, who has now netted twice in as many matches, saw Thomas Frank's professional side take another important step towards a top-eight finish.

However, the triumph was somewhat soured by Micky van de Ven's cheap first-half yellow card that now rules him out of the crunch clash with Borussia Dortmund on January 20.

To stand a realistic chance of bypassing the awkward knockout play-off round, Spurs must beat both Dortmund and fellow German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.

Attack with similar conviction and they will certainly stand a chance providing they sure up their shaky-looking backline.

While it's the first time since late August that Tottenham have recorded consecutive clean sheets, Guglielmo Vicario had to remain alert and made four credible saves.

Spurs were a whisker away from breaking the deadlock inside the opening 36 seconds.

Wilson Odobert, starting his first match since the north London derby defeat at Arsenal, flashed in a low cross which was met first time by Richarlison.

Somehow, Slavia goalkeeper Jindrich Stanek managed to divert the shot over the crossbar via his shoulder in one of the best reaction saves you are ever likely to see.

It was not all one-way traffic, however, as the Czech champions also went close up the other end. Lukas Provod chested Youssoupha Sanyang's switch before flashing a half-volley wide.

The visitors then caused further frustration when striker Mojmir Chytil dramatically went to ground clutching his face after Micky van de Ven had shrugged him off whilst steaming up the field.

The Dutchman, who then picked up and held onto the ball, was harshly booked for his troubles and crucially, will now miss January's clash against Borussia Dortmund due to suspension.

Spurs did then force themselves ahead when Cristian Romero glanced Pedro Porro's corner towards goal before Slavia defender David Zima comically diverted into his own net.

Tottenham were awarded a penalty shortly after the restart when Sanyang axed down Porro after the Spaniard had delivered into the box.

Up stepped Kudus, who made no mistake before Spurs were then awarded a second spot-kick after Simons was brought to ground by Igoh Ogbu.

The confident playmaker successfully dispatched past resolute shot-stopper Stanek from 12-yards to cap another fine, all-action display as Tottenham's creative spark.

Mathys Tel, who was officially added to Spurs' Champions League squad yesterday in place of the injured Dominic Solanke, impressed from the bench down the left flank as he went close on two separate occasions.

Tottenham travel to Nottingham Forest on Sunday in the Premier League looking to achieve something they are yet to do under Frank - win three matches on the spin.
