Tottenham unlikely to sign Belgian midfielder in January, manager is ‘extremely reluctant’ to sell

While Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for an exciting Belgian international, one factor may stop the Lilywhites from being able to land the player in January.

While Thomas Frank has said that he is happy with Tottenham’s midfield balance, there is no denying that the Lilywhites have been short of creativity in the middle of the park so far this season.

To address that problem, it has been suggested that the North Londoners could make a move for a 24-year-old Belgian international, who has caught the eye with his performances for both club and country over the last 18 months.

It was reported by TEAMtalk last month that Tottenham are considering making a move for Rangers star Nicolas Raskin in January.

Tottenham face one complication in Nicolas Raskin pursuit

The earlier update explained that Thomas Frank’s men view Raskin as someone who can add energy and depth to their midfield.

According to TEAMtalk’s information, the Lilywhites are ready to battle several Premier League clubs and sides from across the continent for the 24-year-old.

However, a new report in Football Insider has now claimed that new Rangers boss Danny Rohl is ‘extremely reluctant’ to lose the midfielder in January.

The outlet says that the Scottish club may be tempted to cash in on the Belgian in January and reinvest the money into the squad.

However, Rohl sees Raskin as a key part of his plans and could block the midfielder’s sale mid-season.

Spurs may have to wait until next summer to land Raskin

Football Insider also spoke to journalist Pete O’Rourke about the future of the Rangers midfielder.

He explained that the Scottish club are expecting interest in Raskin during the January window but asserted that they may postpone a sale until next summer.

O’Rourke said about the rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target: “I think ideally Rangers would like to keep hold of Nicolas Raskin in January.

“I’m sure Danny Rohl would too, he has been key for the new Rangers manager in recent games as they picked up three wins in the Scottish Premiership.

“There was interest in Raskin in the summer window from a number of clubs, Premier League and across Europe as well, so I’m sure there is still interest in the Belgium international.

“Rangers are expecting further interest in Raskin in January and next summer as well, and they’ll just be hoping that his price tag will continue to rise.

“As I said, he’s a key player on that team and Danny Rohl, although he would understand if the club were to cash in on him, he’ll be hoping that he can keep hold of him.”
