Thomas Frank appears to have turned things around at Tottenham Hotspur after a difficult November period
Thomas Frank has helped Mohammed Kudus establish himself as one of the most dangerous wingers in Europe. The 25-year-old has found a new gear since joining Tottenham Hotspur from West Ham in the summer, relishing a talismanic role on the biggest stage.
Kudus, whose contract doesn't expire until June 2031, has featured 14 times in the Premier League this season, scoring two goals and providing five assists. So far, only Bruno Fernandes has managed to set up his teammates more than the Ghana international.
Even when Kudus has not been directly involved in the final third, he's still proven to be a threat. According to Squawka, since the start of last term, the Ghanaian has completed the third most take-ons in Europe's top-five leagues (137), which is more than the likes of Kylian Mbappe (127) and Michael Olise (97).
Only Lamine Yamal (224) and Jeremy Doku (152) have managed more. This season, according to Squawka, Kudus currently leads the take-on charts in the English top-flight with 45, which is nine more than the next best dribbler: Yankuba Minteh.
Tottenham almost missed out on the Ghanaian's signature. football.london understood that Kudus was an option for Chelsea in the summer.
In June, West Ham offered the Blues the opportunity to sign the winger, who had an £85m release clause in his contract. The two Premier League clubs held talks about a potential transfer, but no official offer was submitted.
Chelsea were said to be long-time admirers. According to Kudus' agent, Jennifer Mendelewitsch, he agreed on personal terms with the Blues in the summer of 2023, but a deal collapsed, so he joined West Ham instead.
A couple of years later, Tottenham made no mistake and secured his signature. Playing a key role on Frank's side, he has helped Tottenham lay the foundations for a bid to secure a top-four spot.
The Dane will hope Kudus can maintain his promising form over the festive period. Speaking to reporters following Spurs' 3-0 win over Sparta Praha in the UEFA Champions League, Frank commented on the Ghanaian's start to life in north London.
Kudus doubled Tottenham's lead from 12 yards shortly after half-time. The Dane said: "I think actually Mo started the season quite well. Then he had a dip, and now I think the last recent three performances or something like that, it seems we had that freshness, energy, acceleration, decisiveness in his actions."
The Lilywhites have now climbed above the likes of Chelsea, Barcelona, and Newcastle United in the race for automatic qualification to the knockout stages.
