Tottenham want to sort one squad issue before signing Joao Palhinha as number six

Alasdair Gold has explained the factor that is holding up Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of a new defensive midfielder like Joao Palhinha.

According to reports, Thomas Frank is keen on signing a top-class number six, and that would not come as a surprise to most Spurs fans, as central midfield is one area where the Dane is not blessed with many great options.

While a number of outlets are now reporting that Tottenham are pushing ahead with a move for Joao Palhinha, he is far from the only midfielder that the Lilywhites are looking at.

Douglas Luiz and Joao Gomes are also thought to be on Spurs’ radar, while it has also been claimed by some sources that Tottenham have not ruled out an audacious move for Adam Wharton.

Tottenham are looking to offload a midfielder before making a signing

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has now explained that Frank wants to sign ready-made players with Premier League experience who can hit the ground running at N17.

He says that Palhinha is a player who fits the bill for the Lilywhites, although he is not the only option that the club are considering.

The journalist reveals that Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in the Portugal international is not new and dates back to his time at Craven Cottage.

However, Gold adds that before Spurs can push ahead with a move for the Bayern Munich man or another alternative, they first want to offload one of their central midfielders.

Tottenham want to sell Yves Bissouma but there is one problem

It has been widely reported over the last few weeks that Spurs are now trying to find a buyer for Yves Bissouma, who has just a year left on his contract.

It has been claimed by some sources that Fenerbahce are preparing a bid for Bissouma this summer, but the Mali international’s exit may not be on the cards for the next few days or weeks.

This is because, according to GiveMeSport, Bissouma is not in a hurry to leave Spurs and is waiting for the right offer. The former Brighton man is thought to prefer remaining in the Premier League.
