Tottenham weighed up move for Liverpool midfielder before £35m Conor Gallagher deal

Tottenham Hotspur insider Paul O’Keefe has revealed on social media that the Lilywhites considered a move for a Liverpool man this transfer window.

Spurs have secured deals for both Conor Gallagher and Souza so far, but the Lilywhites still have plenty of work to do in the transfer window.

Reports indicate that Tottenham are working on further additions and that another one could be finalised very soon.

However, interestingly, it has now emerged that the 25-year-old may not have been the Lilywhites’ top choice in midfield.

Paul O’Keefe reveals Tottenham wanted Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones

While the signing of Gallagher helps cover an important hole in the squad in light of Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury, the England international perhaps does not do much to solve the club’s creative woes.

One Spurs fan on social media asked Paul O’Keefe if the club are working on signing a progressive passer in midfield, and the Tottenham insider gave an interesting response.

He revealed that Liverpool’s Curtis Jones was on the club’s wishlist but suggested that the pursuit may have now been called off.

O’Keefe wrote on X: “I don’t know. Not really progressive, but they had Curtis Jones on their list. Presumably, they scrub that now – 1 year left on his deal.”

Spurs want to add a deep-lying playmaker to their squad

Interestingly, it has been reported that the feeling at Tottenham is that they need further reinforcements to their midfield despite Gallagher’s arrival.

According to The Times, Tottenham also want a creative passer in the middle of the park in the mould of Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.

However, the outlet added that it is unclear if such a signing can be made this month, with Spurs potentially set to put that off until the summer.
