Tottenham were willing to make massive deadline day bid for Premier League striker

Tottenham Hotspur were willing to break the bank to land a 28-year-old Premier League striker on transfer deadline day, and his club are now preparing a response to ensure Spurs are not able to do a deal in January.

Spurs secured the services of Randal Kolo Muani on loan from Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day, with the Frenchman’s arrival adding more firepower to Thomas Frank’s squad.

The Tottenham head coach has admitted that he is over the moon to have Kolo Muani on board, but it turns out he is not the only number nine the Lilywhites made a move for on the final day of the transfer window.

A new report has now suggested that the North Londoners made a move for a Crystal Palace striker on deadline day, and the Eagles are set to respond to that with an interesting move.

Tottenham enquired about Jean-Philippe Mateta

Journalist Dean Jones has revealed on his Patreon that Tottenham explored a late move for Jean-Philippe Mateta as the window was coming to a close.

He reveals that the Lilywhites made a shock approach for the 28-year-old on deadline day and made it clear that they were willing to make a massive offer to bring him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham’s approach was evidently knocked back, and Jones reveals that Palace are now planning contract talks with the former Lyon and Mainz star to keep him off the clutches of Spurs and other potential suitors.

Tottenham also enquired about another Crystal Palace star

It has emerged over recent days that Tottenham also launched an enquiry for Adam Wharton in the latter stages of the transfer window.

Spurs were not the only ones to do so, with Man United also expressing a late interest in the England international.

However, the Eagles made it clear to suitors that the 21-year-old was not for sale, and the midfielder was happy to continue his development at Selhurst Park in the lead-up to a World Cup year.
